Hey again everyone, hope things are going well for everyone.
I have a question about false pregnancy. When we bought Gracie from her breeder she requested that we didn't fix her until after she had reached full size. I was hesitant but this is a VERY responsible show breeder so I followed her suggestion. Well Grace had her second heat a couple of months ago (she went in 3 days before her spay was scheduled). Now she is having minimal milk leakage from her teats and some teat enlargement. She is definitely not pregnant. I have had dogs with this before and time usually heals it. But I was chatting with a friend and she said to watch out for mastitis. It was my understanding that the dog had to be actively nursing to get this and now I'm worrying myself sick. I have shaved around her nipples and keep the area clean. I know not to express them as it will lengthen the discharge. Is there a high risk of mastitis from this? Thanks for taking the time to answer.
