I've crawled the web but there doesn't seem to be anywhere that gives a cut and dried answer for how to tell what worm is what kind. I have no experience with worms and I've found one that Forest Gump has hacked up with some of his food. One end seems to be shaped like an arrow head. It was quite long and at first I thought it was plastic because of how hard it was to stretch to break in half. Now the guts are coming out of the broken ends and I'm totally sure it's a worm and not some kind of plastic something that he ate. Help? I have put the thing in a plastic zip-lock bag, but vet office is closed Sundays. I don't understand this. Kitten has had Strong ID 2 times, Droncid 1 time, alban, metazondole, clavamox, and with the appearance of this worm, another round of StrongID.

Posts: 85 (10/26/08 03:55:27) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	The length of the worm you are describing tells me it is probably an ascarid, or roundworm. Strongid is effective against roundworms, but if there were immature worms in him at the time of deworming, he would need to be retreated. Revolution applied topically is also effective against roundworms, as is the oral dewormer, Drontal, which removes roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms. Droncit only removes tapeworms. Albon, metronidazole, and clavamox are not effective against roundworms. I hope this helps. Posts: 83 (10/26/08 03:57:16) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Sometimes it takes a few wormings to get rid of them all, if it looks long like spaghetti it is probably roundworms, especially if it is vomited up, tapeworms come out of the %#!$ in flat segments, which when dried look like a grain of rice, or a cucumber seed. Either way deworming would be necessary, make sure all the kittens and cats are dosed as roundworms can be passed around through the feces. Also was the worm alive? He may be so loaded he is vomiting up dead ones, I have seen kittens and cats vomit up handfuls of them they are so infested, gross but not entirely abnormal. They will be gone eventually with treatment, I would also make sure to do routine fecal analysis on them. Good luck Sandra

I believe it was alive, but I kinda pulled it apart quickly, so I can't be 100% sure of my answer. This may seem like a strange question, but do I need to worry about dead worms coming out of his system now that I've given him StrongID? Can they get blockages from them since they're so long? I'm just shocked that something this long was in this tiny cat. Is there anything I can do to make this easier on his system?

I haven't seen anything since, I sure wish I could see inside this little boy's insides to see what's going on. Thank you for providing insight.

He also received an injection of Drontal and has gone through 2 rounds of StrongID. Absolutely not messing around with this and will do another month of Revolution with 2 more rounds of StrongID. I haven't seen anything since obtaining the worm he threw up and the body of that one in his first stool, but hopefully everything has just disintegrated as Sandra says she believes they do. Just wanted to give an update on where I went with this and to thank the two of you for your help with this. Jackie
