My cat was attacked and sprayed by a skunk Thursday night, he left home Friday, he came back an hour ago. He is messed up, his eyes look evil, he wont move
alot, his cries are loud and odd, he stares at the ground and wont look up. I wont go near him because I dont know if he is carrying anything such as rabies. I
cant find any place who comes to the animal, I've made several calls, I dont know what to do but I cant watch him suffer and die either. Who can I call?
also abviously the Vet wants ALL their money upfront, this sprung on us and we dont have the money they want ... I am lost, sad and concerned.

Animal control :-(, they may at least be able to help you find someone to contact if they can't help you. Are there any ASPCA groups near you?

Can you afford an exam? There's no way to know what the diagnostic costs or treatment are going to be unless someone sees him. Some clinics (or animal
control/shelters) have traps or cages available for a refundable deposit if you don't feel comfortable using a box or carrier.
I didn't think 5 days was enough time for a cat to exhibit symptoms of rabies, and I also thought the behavior would be aggressive rather than lethargic. But truthfully, I have no experience with the disease. I suppose symptoms or not doesn't mean he wasn't exposed. Was your cat vaccinated? I'd probably google "rabies symptoms" and see if the timeline and symptoms apply to your cat. Do be careful if you decide to take him in because he's likely injured and in pain. I'd use a blanket to safeguard myself, but I'm very comfortable handling unruly animals. Perhaps someone else here will be able to give you some helpful advice. Good luck to you and kitty.

Btw, does the kitty still smell like skunk? The best way to remove it is using tomatoes.

Get the cat to a vet, asap, if they want money up front fill out a care credit app, if they won't help you find one who will, is your cat current on
vaccines?? If he is not they will probably have to quarantine him depending on what the laws are in your state, he could have internal injuries, now is not the
time to wait, check his gums, are they pale?? Is he urinating and defecating and if so do you see any blood?? You can put on gloves to check him out if you
don't want to touch him, also, massengill vinegar and water douche works wonders on skunk odor. Please though get him seen. Good luck and stay in touch,

I don't know about you, but I get tired of these posts. If it was authentic, then the cat was obviously in dire need of veterinary care. I saw this poster
on the board after responses had been made, so they either didn't feel it was necessary to respond...or they were just blowing us off in the first place.
So when people ask you what should they do when a pet is possibly dying and they can't/won't afford veterinary care, what's the answer? Tell them to give it a proper burial? (If that's not too much trouble) |

I agree, we give as much support and direction as we possibly can, but we cannot force people to get much needed veterinary care, I see this everyday where I
work as well, and as much as I care and would like to treat sick cats without concern for costs or payments, that is just not realistic. I do know however that
care credit is available, and that emergency hospitals will work with you if you need to set up a payment arrangement. I understand times are tough, and
everybody is struggling to make ends meet, but pets are a responsibility and they depend on us to take care of them. arrgh, enough of my babbling, but I
understand where you are coming from Sootie.
